Smilodon is an extinct genus of felids in the subfamily Machairodontinae. It is the best known of the saber-toothed animals and lived during the Pleistocene. More specifically, Smylodons roamed North and South America from about 700,000 years to 11,000 years ago. Several fossils have been found in La Brea like this replica. wiki.
